The third batch of Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa has safely arrived in Ghana as part of the government's ongoing voluntary repatriation exercise.
The evacuation follows recent anti-immigrant tensions and xenophobic incidents in parts of South Africa that prompted hundreds of Ghanaians to seek a return home. Ghana's High Commission in South Africa had earlier announced that the second and third batches of registered evacuees would be flown back on June 6 and June 7, 2026.
The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has been coordinating the repatriation exercise to ensure the safety and welfare of affected citizens. More than 1,500 Ghanaians have reportedly registered for the voluntary return programme.
The latest arrivals join earlier groups of evacuees who returned to Accra following growing concerns over the safety of foreign nationals amid anti-immigration protests in South Africa.
Government officials are expected to continue providing support and reintegration assistance to returnees as efforts to bring home willing Ghanaian citizens continue.
