The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has successfully performed four additional kidney transplant surgeries, increasing the total number of kidney transplants carried out at the facility to 15.
The latest milestone comes two years after the Centre conducted its first kidney transplant procedures in June 2024, highlighting the steady growth and advancement of its transplant programme.
UGMC's progress represents a significant step in strengthening specialised healthcare services in Ghana and reducing the need for patients with kidney failure to travel abroad for transplant procedures. The achievement also reflects the expertise of the Centre's medical teams and ongoing efforts to expand access to advanced treatment in the country.
