Ghana's Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has called on African countries to adopt policies that support the production of healthy, nutritious, and culturally appropriate foods across the continent.
The Minister stressed the importance of strengthening local food systems and promoting indigenous crops and diets that reflect Africa's diverse cultural heritage. He noted that such policies would not only improve food security and nutrition but also support farmers, create jobs, and boost economic growth.
According to him, prioritizing locally produced foods can help reduce dependence on imports while preserving traditional food practices and ensuring sustainable agricultural development.
He urged governments, policymakers, and stakeholders across Africa to collaborate in developing strategies that promote resilient food systems capable of meeting the nutritional needs of present and future generations.
