Ghana's Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has revealed that the government is preparing a proposal for Cabinet that would require individuals to verify their age using a driver's licence or national identification card before accessing X-rated websites.
According to the minister, the policy is aimed at protecting children from exposure to online pornography and other adult content. If approved by Cabinet, internet service providers and telecom operators could be directed to implement age-verification systems similar to those used in some other countries.
βWe're working with Cabinet to make sure that before you access any X-rated site, you must put either your driver's licence or your National ID card,β Sam George said while explaining the proposed measure.
The proposal forms part of broader efforts by the ministry to strengthen online child protection and regulate access to harmful digital content.
