Technology consultant Derek Laryea says growing public concerns about the proposed NITA Bill are not about rejecting regulation but ensuring it remains fair and effective.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Laryea argued that some provisions in the bill appear overly expansive and could affect innovation within Ghana’s fast-growing digital sector. He stressed that many young entrepreneurs and startups rely on experimentation and flexibility to develop new ideas and attract investment.
“Nobody is against regulation,” he stated, adding that the focus should be on “effective regulation, not expansive regulation.”
The proposed bill has sparked widespread debate among technology professionals, digital entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders over its potential impact on Ghana’s digital economy.
