President John Dramani Mahama was met with loud cheers and a warm reception upon his arrival and announcement at the Angondjé Stadium in northern Libreville, Gabon, during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the country’s newly-elected president, Brice Oligui Nguema.

In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb, President Mahama is seen stepping out of his vehicle, while dressed in a simple yet elegant traditional batakari paired with black trousers.

He is then escorted to his seat amid cheers from the crowd, highlighting the warm reception he received at the event.

The inauguration event came off on May 3, 2025, attracting a large crowd of supporters of newly sworn in President Nguema.

The event was attended by more than 20 African Heads of State, including The Gambia’s Adama Barrow, Senegal’s Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Djibouti’s Ismail Omar Guelleh, and Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, as reported by the media.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s President Felix Tshisekedi also attended.

Brice Oligui Nguema, a military general, came to power in Gabon after leading a coup that ended the decades-long rule of Ali Bongo and his family.

He secured a sweeping victory in the April election, garnering nearly 95 percent of the vote.
