Football’s global governing body, FIFA, has officially opened an investigation after megastar internet personality IShowSpeed was targeted with alleged racist abuse during a live broadcast at the FIFA World Cup. The incident took place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami during a tense Round of 32 knockout clash between Argentina and Cape Verde. The Incident on StreamIShowSpeed (Darren Jason Watkins Jr.), who has been one of the most visible digital creators at the tournament through a high-profile broadcast collaboration, was streaming live from the stands while wearing a Cape Verde jersey.During the stream, Watkins turned to confront a spectator leaning over a stadium railing. The supporter, wearing an Argentina jersey, hurled a highly offensive remark in Spanish, telling the 21-year-old Black content creator to "go cry at the zoo." The derogatory exchange was captured entirely live, sparking immediate outrage across social media platforms where Watkins commands a combined audience of over 150 million followers. FIFA Issues Immediate CondemnationFollowing widespread circulation of the video footage, FIFA released an official statement confirming that its disciplinary units have stepped in. "FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate, and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society," the governing body stated. "FIFA was made aware of an incident involving a supporter and IShowSpeed at Miami Stadium during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde match and immediately initiated an investigation." FIFA further emphasized that the World Cup is intended to be a global celebration of unity, diversity, and respect, warning that anyone who acts in a manner that undermines those foundational values is "not welcome in our game." Tournament Under the SpotlightThe investigation comes at a sensitive time for the tournament, as off-field discrimination issues have threatened to catch headlines alongside the sporting drama. Just days prior to this incident, France captain Kylian Mbappé publicly condemned a separate racism controversy involving a political figure following France's Round of 16 victory, prompting football federations to pursue legal and criminal accountability. The governing body has not yet publicly identified the individual supporter involved in the Miami incident, nor have they announced specific disciplinary actions or stadium bans while the active review takes place. Neither IShowSpeed nor his management team have issued further public comment on the pending investigation.
