🚨Breaking: South Africa Plans To Charge Countries For Deporting Their Citizens
South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) says the government intends to start charging countries for the cost of deporting their nationals who violate South African immigration laws.
According to officials, more than 100,000 undocumented migrants have been deported over the past two years, costing the state millions of rand.
DIRCO spokesperson Chrispin Phiri said countries have shown they are capable of repatriating their citizens and should therefore share responsibility for the costs involved.
The proposed policy is aimed at reducing the financial burden on South African taxpayers while encouraging greater cooperation from countries whose citizens are found to be living in the country illegally or are awaiting deportation after criminal convictions.
