Two female victims who were abducted and shown in a viral video have been successfully recovered by the Ghana Police Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Signals Bureau (NSB).

The disturbing video, which showed the victims in agony, had caused a great deal of public indignation.

Eight people have been arrested in Ghana and Nigeria as part of a coordinated investigation related to the kidnapping. Law enforcement authorities collaborated effectively to trace down and apprehend the individuals, who were found at multiple hideouts throughout the two nations.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrests and rescue in a statement, adding that more information on the rescue effort would be released later as the investigation progresses.

The statement said, "The Ghana Police Service would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Nigeria Police Force and the National Signals Bureau for their invaluable assistance and collaboration in both the rescue and arrest operations."

Background

According to reports, a 39-year-old lady was abducted from Asiakwa in the Eastern Region's Abuakwa South Municipality.

On Tuesday, April 22, Ama Serwaa Konadu, a well-known hairdresser and event decorator in the neighborhood, was kidnapped as she was leaving her house for work.

The following day, her kidnappers sent family members many naked recordings of her on her phone while machete-wielding.

Before releasing her, her kidnappers, who say they are detaining her in Nigeria, are requesting GH₵500,000 in ransom.

Since then, the family has formally complained to the Ghana Police Service and its sister security and intelligence organizations, providing them with all of the tapes to help with their inquiries.
