Netflix and DreamWorks Animation veteran Shannon Olivas has joined Fox Corp.’s ad-supported streaming giant Tubi has head of communications and publicity.

Olivas will lead communications strategy for Fox Tubi for consumer, advertiser, product, entertainment-related PR as well as corporate communications. Olivas’ appointment follows the promotion of former Tubi communications chief Seana Sullivan to senior VP of corporate communications for Fox Corp., where she oversees Tubi. Olivas reports to Tubi chief marketing officer Nicole Parlapiano.

“Shannon brings a rare combination of studio-level communications expertise and true builder instincts,” Parlapiano said. “Her proven track record of shaping brands at scale and telling stories that resonate makes her exactly the right leader to elevate Tubi’s voice as we continue our global expansion. I couldn’t be more excited to have her head up our global communications and publicity team.”

Olivas comes to Tubi after most recently serving as head of corporate communications for Cue Health, helping the at-home COVID testing company launch IPO and expand its direct-to-consumer business. Before that, Olivas held senior communications posts at the Wonderful Company, Netflix, Skydance Media, the Honest Company and DreamWorks Animation.

Tubi has grown in depth and breadth since the streaming platform was acquired by Fox for $440 million in cash in March 2020. The platform is now courting creators and indie filmmakers to serve as a platform for new talent discovery as well as a voluminous archive of movie and TV show titles. The platform now counts about 100 million monthly active users and it serves up about 1 billion hours of content streamed each month.

“Tubi’s growth and scale are now giving us a deeper understanding of what audiences love and a greater ability to deliver the content and experiences that turn viewers into passionate fans,” Olivas said. “I’m thrilled to join this talented team and look forward to finding new ways to break through with bigger, bolder stories about the content, creators, and culture that make Tubi unlike anywhere else in entertainment.”
