Can you beat teen darts superstar Luke Littler?
That’s the question Netflix is asking as the streamer confirms Beat Luke Littler, a live darts event that’ll pit the British 19-year-old darts prodigy against amateurs competing in a bid to win £501,000 ($666k).
The live special — set for October 30 this year —will see 20 applicants from across the U.K. step up to the oche for the ultimate sporting challenge. Anyone can enter the competition.
“The rules are simple: one night, one chance, and one perfect leg of 501,” said Netflix. “If an amateur can defeat darts prodigy Luke Littler, they will walk away with a life-changing £501,000.” Littler joined in on the fun, posting a video of himself combing through social media messages from those confident they can take on the world champion. “Everyone thinks they can beat me. Now they get a chance to prove it. Bring it on,” he says.
Luke “the Nuke” Littler has every right to be self-assured. He has risen the ranks to become one of darts’ most famous players, having won two back-to-back world championships and being the youngest in history to do so. Littler was on Time‘s list of “The 100 Most Influential People in Sports” this year.
Produced in partnership with the PDC [Professional Darts Corporation], the show will be produced by Workerbee, part of Banijay U.K. Tournaments to decide the final 20 taking on Littler will be held in London and Manchester in September.
It’s yet another push into the live sports space for Netflix, which has taken the TV rights in Canada to the upcoming Women’s World Cup, as well as star-studded boxing matches, Major League Baseball, and the World Cup deal with Goalhanger’s The Rest Is Football podcast.
