As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended its nationwide 'Thank You Tour', the Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed worry over the incident, describing it as a worrying phenomenon that affronts Ghana's democracy.

In a release issued and signed by the PRO, Mr. Richard E. A. Sarpong, popularly called Father Casford, on Sunday, May 4, 2025, they added their voice to the disturbing trend within the NPP fraternity, pointing out that the crystal disunity within the NPP is politically disturbing and could collapse the party if care is not taken. Ghana needs the NPP to maintain, strengthen, and guarantee the sustainability of the multiparty democracy that Ghana is currently practicing.

Without mincing words, the Cadres assert that the National Executives of the NPP seem not to be in control of managing the party's affairs, significantly contributing to the unfortunate shooting of a member; a simple exercise of organizing and thanking God and the grassroots of the party has turned chaotic, and this leaves much to be desired.

What was supposed to be a peaceful, unifying 'Thank You Tour' aimed at galvanizing support from the base has turned into a 'War Tour', with a party faithful being stabbed amidst gunshots and subsequently hospitalized. This worrying incident has compelled the Cadres of NDC to inquire whether there was a threat to warrant the gunshot in the first place. Clearly, security agencies in Ghana must not allow this matter to die naturally; it must be thoroughly investigated, and the perpetrators brought to book. "This cannot be allowed in a civilized democracy", underscored the release.

In the thinking of the gallant cadres of NDC, Dr. Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer, should not be the one to address supporters of NPP, as he gets undue advantage over other potential flagbearer aspirants. It is a sad development that has necessitated the discontinuation of a rather purposeful nationwide tour.

On the tour, Dr. Bawumia admitted that the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme and other economic policies of the Nana Akufo-Addo Government militated against the party's success during the 2024 general elections, imposing hardships on Ghanaians, including the implementation of other draconian taxes, illegal mining, and high unemployment rates.

Incidentally, the Cadres of NDC believe the NPP should give Dr. Bawumia the nod to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections. "All those who are hatching plans to contest Bawumia should desist from such a move and rally their support for Bawumia, the party's 2024 flagbearer," the release ended.

With Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, an unsuccessful flagbearer aspirant for the 2024 election, having made his intention clear to contest the leadership of the NPP in the 2028 elections, would all others who have ambitions of leading the NPP acquiesce to the Cadres' call to support Dr. Bawumia? Only time would tell, as the internal political activities of the NPP are yet to kick in.
