Seth Meyers on the second Trump presidency: ‘No one feels better, everyone’s miserable’

1 day ago 7

Seth Meyers discussed Donald Trump’s many weaknesses as president as the US economy continues to tumble.

On Late Night, the host started by covering how Donald Trump responded to the death of his longtime loyalist Lindsey Graham, joking that he was an “empathetic president who knows when to use a deft touch” before playing footage of him speculating on the cause of death.

Trump said that a part of Graham’s body “literally blew up” according to some “great doctors”.

Meyers countered: “I’d argue they weren’t great doctors if they used language like ‘literally blew up’.”

He also joked that the doctor sounded like Wile E Coyote.

“Just be normal and have some decorum in a situation like this,” he added.

Meyers also played footage of Trump going on about different topics despite a Fox host trying to get him back on track. “Just hang up on him, you’re not gonna get him to stop!” Meyers said.

He said that Trump resembles any other 80-year-old on the phone as “they have nowhere to be, they have nothing to do” so will “torture you with small talk”.

Meyers said that with all of the many problems affecting everyday Americans at the moment, Trump is “laser-focused” on putting his name and face on currency.

He called it “a grotesque act of ego” but did comment that it will be the “first time American money will bear a signature that was also used to represent pubic hair on a dirty drawing to Jeffrey Epstein”.

Meyers also joked that the coin “looks like a haunted coin from an Edgar Allan Poe story”.

He briefly touched upon the rise of the explosive diarrhea bug that he thinks RFK Jr will refer to as “discount Ozempic”.

Trump has also been busy with his “awesome renovation projects” including making the White House look “like the location for the next season of The White Lotus”.

Despite members of his administration claiming that he is doing a better job than Joe Biden, Meyers pointed out that his poll numbers are worse then Biden’s ever were and “no one feels better, everyone’s miserable”.

He said that “things are bad, that’s not just my assessment”, although he would give the administration credit on one thing and that’s “holding firm to their principles” after various Trump cronies said they would be against plans to charge a fee to pass through the strait of Hormuz.

Meyers said that Trump is “a man of his word” before showing a Truth Social post from the president suggesting a 20% fee on ships even though he doesn’t control the waterway.

He called it “the most disappointing thing to happen to Marco Rubio in the last 45 minutes” yet Trump almost immediately walked back the plan.

Meyers called it “another embarrassing U-turn” and said such flip-flopping was “not projecting strength”.

He added: “This is the recurring theme of the second Trump presidency so far: he won an election on bringing down prices and making everything more affordable and now everything is worse.”
