Canadian authorities have arrested a 21-year-old suspect in connection with an international vehicle theft and fraud operation that allegedly stretched from Canada to Ghana.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, the investigation began after a luxury Land Rover was fraudulently purchased using stolen identity documents and later shipped from Canada to Ghana. Police say a second luxury vehicle, a BMW X5, was also obtained through a similar scheme.
The suspect was arrested in Edmonton and is facing multiple charges, including motor vehicle theft, fraud, impersonation, possession of stolen identity documents, and use of forged documents.
Investigators say the case highlights the growing trend of cross-border vehicle theft networks involving stolen luxury vehicles exported overseas. Authorities in both Canada and Ghana are continuing investigations into the wider operation.
