Ghanaian National Extradited to U.S. Pleads Guilty in Romance and Inheritance Scheme Targeting the Elderly

A Ghanaian citizen, Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng (alias "Dada Joe Remix"), has pled guilty to wire fraud conspiracy charges in Arizona. Arrested in Ghana in late May 2025 and extradited the following month, Boateng admitted to participating in a long-running scheme between 2013 and 2023 that defrauded elderly Americans. The scam involved fake romantic relationships online and false promises of gold/jewel inheritances that required upfront fees. He has agreed to pay back $4.4 million in restitution. Sentencing is scheduled for September 2026, with the FBI and multiple international agencies collaborating on the investigation and extradition.
