Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has announced that the government will intensify the removal of unauthorized structures built on waterways and in flood-prone areas across Accra to curb persistent flooding.
Following an inspection of flood-affected communities, including Dome Pillar Two, the Minister revealed plans to upgrade the areaโs bridge by raising its height and increasing its drainage capacity to handle larger volumes of stormwater. He noted that flooding is worsened by upstream developments, encroachment on waterways, and inadequate infrastructure.
Adjei disclosed that a special task force has been commissioned to identify and demolish illegal structures obstructing natural water flow. He stressed that alongside infrastructure improvements and flood-control projects, strict enforcement of planning regulations and public cooperation are essential to addressing Accraโs recurring flooding challenges.
