Police in the Ashanti Region have shot and killed a 23-year-old suspected armed robber, Ali Mohammed, during an intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling a notorious robbery syndicate operating across parts of Ghana.
According to police sources, the suspect was wanted in connection with several violent robbery incidents, including the shooting and murder of former Berekum Chelsea player, Dominic Frimpong.
The operation took place at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, where officers attempted to arrest the suspect. Police say Ali Mohammed allegedly opened fire on security personnel, leading to an exchange of gunfire. He was fatally wounded during the confrontation.
Authorities also recovered a quantity of weapons believed to have been used by the robbery syndicate in its criminal activities.
Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the gang. The recovered weapons have been taken into custody for forensic examination as part of efforts to dismantle the network.
The death of Dominic Frimpong shocked Ghana's football community, and police say the latest operation marks a significant breakthrough in the case.
