"Jacinta and her xenophobic friends should not come to our doorsteps. If They Come Again, We Will Beat Them Physically" — Pretoria Business Owners Warn Jacinta and Anti-Foreigner Groups
Business owners in Pretoria have issued a strong warning to activist Jacinta Ngobese and her anti-foreigner allies, telling them not to come to their doorsteps, or else face the consequences.
The warning comes amid ongoing xenophobic attacks targeting Black foreigners in South Africa, including Ghanaians, which recently escalated to the point that the Ghanaian government evacuated over 300 of its citizens from the country.
In a viral video, business owners from the Indian community in Marabastad expressed frustration at being told to leave a country they call home.
"Which country are we supposed to go to? We were born and raised here. If they come again, we're going to beat them here," one man said.
He pointed out that many Indian South Africans have lived in the country their entire lives and have nowhere else to go.
The business owners also argued that ordinary citizens have no right to demand identification or decide who is legal or illegal.
"Anyone who can determine if a person is illegal is the officials, the police, or immigration officers.
No South African should come to you and say, 'Give me your ID.' They must go to the rightful people," they said.
The group accused anti-foreigner protesters of being lazy, claiming that if hired, they wouldn't last more than a week on the job.
"They are sitting at home, too lazy to work. If you hire them, they only last a week. It's not even funny," one business owner said.
The business owners also expressed frustration that the protests are disrupting their livelihoods.
"They are disturbing my job, disturbing my complex. They were supposed to apply for their demonstration properly.
South African children are here trying to earn a living. If they take that away, where are we going to eat?" they asked.
The group warned that they are united and ready to defend themselves.
"This is Marabastad. We can fight better. We are united. Whatever they do, they must know we are ready," they said….
