Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that each player selected for the Black Stars squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive a $100,000 appearance fee—keeping the amount unchanged from recent major tournaments.

In an interview with Accra-based TV3, the Minister revealed that appearance fees for the national team have fluctuated over the years, ranging from

Despite the Ghana cedi recently gaining strength against the US dollar, Adams stated that the government has decided not to increase the fee.

“The appearance fee has been pegged at $100,000 for quite some time, and this year it remains the same. We have not changed it,” he explained.

When asked about calls to raise the amount due to the cedi’s improved performance, the Minister pushed back, arguing that consistency should prevail.

“Some say because the cedi has become stronger, we should increase it, and we said no. If the cedi had become weaker, would you have said we should reduce the dollar amount so that it gives the same cedi equivalent? You wouldn’t,” he said.

Adams praised the government’s efforts to stabilize and strengthen the local currency, reiterating that the existing appearance fee remains fair and appropriate for the Black Stars players.
