Couple spends GH¢ 600,000 on wedding

A lady during a podcast discussion on the cost of weddings in Ghana has stated that, the average wedding cost in Ghana now is Ghc600,000
They were discussing the topic “Going Broke After A Wedding” and that came up, and she revealed that because of her role in the industry, she ’s seen several wedding budgets from organisers and the average cost is Ghc600,000
“Cocktail is about Ghc40,000, Decor about Ghc180,000 and for food you are looking at about Ghc200 a head so inviting 200 people that is Ghc40,000 and that is even if you have some simple dishes”
However, the ladies on the podcast “Once Upon A Wedding” advised that, if someone is willing to spend that amount on a wedding, then the couple should at least have 10x that in an emergency fund.
The discussion also highlighted how people take loans to fund their dream wedding in hopes that, guests will bring in lots of cash gifts to offset the cost and end up getting disappointed.
Also that most to be couples are under pressure to please friends and family members with the whole “luxury vibe” to paint a certain image.
The whole financial cost after the wedding burdens mainly the man, and before we know it, they are divorced , so then what was really the whole point?
So in your opinion, how much are you willing to spend on your own wedding?
I personally feel that, no one should ever borrow to marry and that if you have to do that or beg people for money to marry, then you are not ready to enter that union. Just find a partner who would reason with you because the real wedding is how you do well after the whole ceremony.
