A woman suspected of theft was reportedly beaten by members of the public after allegedly attempting to steal for a second time at Bibiani Market in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when the woman approached a roadside avocado seller and pretended to be interested in purchasing some of the fruits. While the vendor was occupied arranging and inspecting the avocados, the suspect allegedly reached into the sellerโs money bag and took GHยข4,000.
The seller is said to have noticed the act and immediately confronted the woman. Witnesses claim the suspect responded by slapping the trader before fleeing the scene, despite an alarm being raised to attract the attention of nearby traders and shoppers.
Reports indicate that not long after the first incident, the same woman allegedly attempted another theft at a different roadside stall within the market. This time, however, she was reportedly apprehended by members of the public before she could escape.
The suspect was subsequently subjected to a severe beating by the crowd before the situation was brought under control. Details regarding her condition and whether she was handed over to the police remain unclear.
