Interview With The Vampire has been renewed for a fourth season, AMC announced Friday.
The renewal news came during the San Diego Comic Con Hall H presentation of the show’s third season, The Vampire Lestat, which included executive producers Mark Johnson and Hannah Moscovitch, along with cast members Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian and Sheila Atim. The third season just ended its run last week.
The show was given a name change to The Vampire Lestat for season three to match the name of Anne Rice’s popular novel that the season was based upon. Season four will follow that trend and has been dubbed Queen of the Damned, which will be adapted from Rice’s beloved novel of the same name. Queen of the Damned follows The Vampire Lestat as the third novel in Rice’s popular Vampire Chronicle series and is a continuation of the previous novel that focuses heavily on the original vampire Akasha, portrayed by Sheila Atim in The Vampire Lestat.
Queen of the Damned, along with a new name, is also getting a new showrunner. Rolin Jones, who will serve as an executive producer on the new season, will not be showrunning season four, as he had been for season three. Moscovitch is set take on the showrunner title and executive produce alongside Johnson and Jones. The new showrunner served as a writer on seasons one and two of Interview With A Vampire and an executive on The Vampire Lestat, specifically wrote the Akasha and Gabriella characters.
“In The Vampire Lestat, Mark, Rolin, Hannah and this extraordinary cast delivered an unforgettable season filled with propulsive storytelling that captivated the passionate and engaged fans of this franchise,” AMC Global Media’s chief content office and president of AMC Studios Dan McDermott said in a release.
“We can’t wait to continue the journey with Queen of the Damned, one of the most iconic stories in Anne Rice’s mythology, and watch our established and beloved characters confront Akasha with their world, and ours, very much hanging in the balance,” he continued.
