Around 100 million people could experience unhealthy air as wildfire smoke blows into the Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic this week.

Wildfire smoke contains toxic gases and particulates that can affect human health. Exposure can trigger respiratory problems and irritate sinuses and has been linked to more severe problems. It can affect anyone, but children and those who are older or pregnant or who have preexisting conditions are particularly vulnerable.
