The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially proclaimed his desire to run for the party's National Chairmanship.

Chairman Wontumi indicated in an interview with Wontumi TV that a spiritual experience affected his decision. According to him, he had a spiritual encounter with God that confirmed his opinion that he is destined to head the NPP on a national scale. He expressed confidence that his leadership would play a critical role in returning the party to power in the 2028 general election.

"I had a special encounter with God, and I am convinced that it is time to accept this national responsibility." Ghanaians are eager for the NPP's return, and I think that with the right leadership, we can do it," he stated.

Wontumi has been a vocal and contentious figure in Ghanaian politics, noted for his staunch allegiance to the NPP and considerable influence in the Ashanti Region, the party's stronghold. His ambition for national chairperson is expected to provoke debate among party members, particularly as the NPP prepares for internal elections ahead of the 2028 elections.

Observers believe his entry into the race will shake up current power structures inside the party, raising concerns about how his distinctive leadership style will translate on a national scale.
