George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney have been forced to evacuate their home in the small town of Brignoles in southern France due to nearby wildfires.
The Clooneys, who left with their children, in a letter to Brignoles mayor Didier Brémond said they didn’t know whether their hilltop home could be saved by firefighters but would help rebuild the small community after a fast-moving fire had been put out.
“Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment and as we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasize 2 things. First we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there,” George Clooney said in a short letter obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
The town of Brignoles in the Var department in southern France has a population of between 600 and 700 villagers that were also forced to evacuate the region as wildfires fueled by a heat wave and strong winds continues to impact southern Europe.
The Clooneys own the property near Brignoles, a former wine estate called the Domaine du Canadel, which they purchased in 2021. The pair also owns an estate in Italy’s Lake Como region, purchased in 2002, and bought a historic manor in England.
The Clooneys and their children were granted French citizenship as part of their residence in the south of France as they look to shield their family from the paparazzi.
