Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has advised pastors to refrain from anointing Ghana’s newly launched chip-embedded passports, a practice that has become common among individuals embarking on international travel.

Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrokoo, he humorously remarked, “These ones are not for you to anoint,” suggesting that the religious ritual of praying over passports may be unnecessary or inappropriate given the sophisticated technology and security features now embedded in the documents.

“Those pastors who want to anoint everything, you have been advised not to anoint this one,” he stated.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially began issuing the chip-embedded passports this week. The new passports are equipped with a microprocessor chip that stores the holder’s biometric and photo data and are linked to the National Identification Authority’s (NIA) database. Officials say the upgrade aligns with international security standards and is designed to streamline the passport application process.

In addition to biometric integration, the new passports boast advanced anti-fraud features, including both visible and hidden indicators that enhance document security and prevent counterfeiting.
